JESTER - King's Arms Auckland Friday May 26 2001
After battling an 8 hour drive from Masterton to Auckland the emergency call was put out to Jester's bass player Mark..."help we've broken down on the motorway just south of the Bombay Hills"! Soon afterwards the 'Jestermobile' was speeding (at 60mph) back into the Kings Arms with the saved lads from Uncle Monkey for the show with only half an hour to spare. Uncle Monkey's van had broken down and it was a bit touch and go there for a while. Jester began the show with 45min of their new songs and a couple of favourites from the 'King Of The World' Ep followed by Uncle Monkey's 'fishing' tour songs.

ZED
In a ferocious storm Uncle Monkey and their Holden Kingswood boarded the ferry for the journey to the south island. Through 5-6m swells the ferry rocked from side to side threatening to send the band and their beloved Kingswood to the bottom of the 'Cook Strait'. Arriving in Picton the queesy band began their 5 hour drive to Christchurch. The wind and rain were atrocious and the Holden's heater wasn't working so the band had to do the driving in shifts...keeping the circulation in their fingertips and the vehicle on the right side of the road. The band took the stage at Canterbury Uni's end-of-term party and had to leave straight away to get back to the evening ferry for Wellington. Uncle Monkey didn't even get to hear Zed perform!

PINE
Uncle Monkey and PINE shared a night at 'The Dux De Lux' in Christchurch performing to an ample Wednesday crowd on a cool night in July 2000. PINE took the stage at 9.30pm and quickly warmed the intimate audience with their 'slice of life' songs. Read about them growing all over the New Zealand countryside at
pinemusic.co.nz. Uncle Monkey followed with some new songs including 'From', 'Chemistry' and 'Chair in the Garden' (which is about ruining your parent's garden after an intoxicating night out!)
