Holden Report - Issue #2

  • newsflash No.2
Sam now gets 'driver of the month' for hearing some strange sounds in the motor, taking the Holden to a garage and then later deciding "well...it was still going, so I went back to the garage and picked it up without them working on it!"

  • newsflash
Carl gets 'driver of the month' for running out of gas while looking for a park before a gig.

  • The Holden broke down leaving Steve stuck half way over the Rimutuka incline. Some mechanics in Upper Hutt saw to the problem and it has since been resolved. Something to do with the cam-gear (cog or something). So, his journey over into the Wairarapa ended in a train trip home to Wellington.

  • The big news for November is that we have treated the Holden to a new number plate...it looks kind of like this...
MONK1E

  • Well, with all the recent rain we have been having we've found that the Holden has a few little leaks...especially around the driver's seat.

  • Holden Fact: Did you know that we can get the 3 band members across the front (on the bench seat), all the gear in the back and 3 people in the back seat! One night we managed to get 4 in the front, 5 in the back, as well as the band gear.

  • In a recent journey around the corner to Steve's house the Holden was pummeled by a flying branch in the severe winds we have been having. The aerial was consequently bent and has since fallen off.

  • The in-flight sound system is now well and truly stuffed!

  • The light system decided to stop working about a week ago. At night we either drive around with our park lights on or full beam. Only by fiddling with the footswitch can we get the lights to work normally.

  • We have found new ways to entertain ourselves while on long journeys now. The Holden dashboard has a feature fairly rare to vehicles these days. The dashboard light can be turned off (which we call 'stealth mode'). To this feature we add the simple 'headlights off' feature and count as high as we possibly can.

  • Holden Fact No.2: Did you know that our Holden was born in 1972 which makes it 2 years older than the Holden on display in the Te Papa museum of New Zealand! (P.S. Steve was also born in 1972!)

  • Steve gets 'driver of the month award' for running out of gas in the middle of Aro St. and then immitating 'the flinstones' while trying to get it off the road.
