I was born in Wellington, New Zealand and begun my musical career at the ripe old age of 3 by sliding around on record sleeves in my parent's lounge. By 5 I'd formed my first band, singing along to Abba, Klaus Wunderlich and Neil Diamond playing a guitar that looked very much like a tennis racket. We did gigs every Friday night in the lounge after fish 'n chips and a few swigs on my Dad's beer. My mother added a piano to the group putting me through 2 or 3 lessons before my interest waned. I couldn't be bothered with notes, scales & tutors. It wasn't the image I was going for. We disbanded after I moved away to live with my Dad in the Hutt Valley at 8. My brother joined us and we shifted up to the sunny Hawkes Bay where I was to experience my first shot at the big time...
I learnt to play guitar following in the footsteps of Mark Knopfler, Lindsey Buckingham & U2's 'The Edge'. I lasted for 6 weeks in guitar lessons before being caught out memorising the tunes and not being able to read music to save myself. I formed a band called 'Lechirovi' in high school and we placed 2nd in the Hawkes Bay ' Battle Of The Bands'.

I returned to Wellington to study architecture and joined 'Condition Red' who became 'Each'. We toured New Zealand relentlessly and won the Auckland POD 'Battle Of The Bands'. 'Each' released 2 singles & videos.

Uncle Monkey formed during this time... Carl.
