BIOGRAPHY Uncle Monkey formed in Wellington '95 and have become one of New Zealand's enduring success stories. Their music blends home-grown organic indie-rock, with 3-part harmonies. They've toured New Zealand, Australia and ventured into Alaska, Bolivia and Nepal to perform. The band's new animation video for 'Dally In Indigo' has just been released in Australasia. 'Dally In Indigo' is the new video/single from the 2nd album 'The Great Attractor' which has already spawned 3 successful radio songs. The success of the previous 'Open Arms' video (3rd: viewers choice; Juice TV Music Awards, Indie Hit Disc 20) was sufficient prompt for Rage TV and Triple JJJ to air the song in Australia. 'Open Arms' was also selected for the television feature 'Summer Camp USA'. The follow-up singles 'Cracked Up' and 'Excess Baggage Allowance' also received strong radio support for the band both being selected for radio's Indie Hit Discs. The Land Transport Safety Authority selected 'Cracked Up' for their learner drivers' CDRom and it was also featured in the Wellington short-film festival.
The 3-piece are well known for their engaging live performances through nationwide touring, which led to recent shows alongside the likes of Trinity Roots, OdESSA, Rhombus & Jordan Luck. Loop Recordings selected Uncle Monkey's song 'Brotherly' for their Tsunami Relief 'Sunday Sessions' CD, with proceeds going toward the Surf-Aid International appeal. 'Brotherly' was recenty aired on TV2's drama 'Tough Act'.
